TP polyester is more than you think.
You may know pet, pbx and PETG--
But what about PCT, PCTG, PCTA and PTT?
If you\'re not sure what they are, how their properties are compared, and who sells them, we have the answer ---
There are many new developments.
Let the mold or extruder of the engineering resin be named thermoplastic polyester and most people may come up with PET or PBTor, perhaps PETG.
Most likely, a smaller number will realize that there are at least three members in the commercially available pet polyester family, and one waiting on the wings.
Fewer Processors will know how well the \"hidden\" members of these resin families fit in terms of cost/performance, or where they can be obtained.
In view of their long-term records in electrical, automotive, medical and electrical parts and advanced packaging (
Not to mention the packaging of goods, beyond the scope of this article)
, What is the reason for the fuzzy picture of polyester on the market today?
The lack of focus is due in part to the fact that TP polyester contains seven homopolymps and copopolyester types, all of which are based on ester chemistry and p-benzic acid (TPA)backbone (see table).
Different varieties have excellent chemical resistance and electrical properties, good dimensional stability and (if reinforced)high toughness-
Stiff balance
A few high definition.
But to varying degrees, they are sometimes affected by poor thermal performance, appearance defects and ease of moisture
This makes drying a key issue.
The second source of confusion is the marketing policies of some suppliers in recent years.
Some people deliberately avoid identifying specific types of polyester and copolyester.
More importantly, the ending of indifference
Using the market, the same resin from the same supplier may be attracted by a completely different trade name.
The third source of uncertainty comes from recent changes in the polyester supply line --up.
In the past year, almost every supplier has stripped or acquired polyester production lines, or made a major restructuring of their polyester business.
While these initiatives aim to lay the foundation for stronger long-term development
The direct effect of the term \"supply base\" is to increase uncertainty about who supplies what.
A further fuzzy view is a key feature of the polyester itself ---
They are efficient in accepting glass and mineral-enhanced materials, pigments and other polymers.
About 90% of polyester is compounded with filler, booster and other additives.
The difference between properties of different base resin.
However, composite is also responsible for the new development of flame
Flame retardant andFDA-
The diffusion of acceptable PBTs and alloys that combine polyester with each other and with polycarbonate, ABS and ASA.
Three factors make it a good time to clarify the position of tp polyester in today\'s market.
One is the massive change in supply.
Another is the marketing efforts of competing resin producers to replace polyester and other resins in target applications.
Last but not least, some new technological developments: Polyester suppliers are dealing with this competition with new resins and alloys, including hydrolysis-
Tb resistance grade for enhanced performance in electrical equipment (e. g. , connectors)
Under extreme conditions
Other options improve the ability to decorate citrix and engineeringgradePET.
A new type of polyester PTT has also recently been introduced.
A versatile chemical polyester puzzle
They become users because of their diversity.
By combining tpa with different diols, Workhorse homopolymers obtain their different properties: PET and pbx are made of ethylene glycol (EG)
They are respectively.
Suppliers include GE Advanced Materials, ticon and DuPont (
Which one is made of domestic resin), BASF (
Domestic and imported resin), and Bayer (
Which is used for imported resin).
DuPont, tecona, BASF and Bayer also supply enhanced PET compounds.
Despite a long string of separate polyester compounds, few say they are active in product development today.
A separate set of copolyester combines TPA (such as) with Difang diol, cyclo-hexyl diol, or CHDM.
CHDM is a chemical from isspecialtychemicals with Korean SK.
It is at least four times the amount of diol used in PET and tb, so CHDM-
The headquarters is located at a considerable price premium for copolyesterscommand. The glycol-
Modified copolyester is PETG (
Among them, the content of CHDM is less than 50%)and PCTG (
The diol content of IsCHDM is more than 50%).
The PCT is an homopolympian of TPA and 100% CHDM diol with excellent heat resistance.
The recently sold Eastman PCT family DuPontEngineering polymer.
DuPont also has the right to obtain some of the enhanced compounds between the ophthal acid PCTAmodified PCT.
In recent years, Eastman has used only the general-purpose label of \"Polyester\" and co-polyester to describe all its different materials.
Because until recently, Eastman was the only producer of PCT, PCTG, PETG, and PCTA, and its generic label could somehow obscure the properties of Coppet and its personal properties
According to a recent study released by Menlo Park SRIConsulting, California, the electronic use of the flow Demand for polyester resin and compounds in North America in 2003 was 0. 6 billion/year
Joel Levy, author of the report, breaks the polyester market down to 60% tb (Alloy included)
, 16% PET, 22% polyester (
Pet G accounts for 80% of them).
Domestic demand is expected to grow at a rate of 5%-6% per year over the next few years.
Most of the polyester fiber-especially PBT--
Modeling activities are moving to Asia
The Pacific region is the main region for recent capacity expansion.
More than 50% of the market demand is for cars, as well as the built-in electrical connectors, switches and relays for a smaller degree of printed circuit boards.
The market is transforming as new forces drive higher temperature requirements-
It\'s no longer small, adding to the congestion of car parts under the hood, and new leads
Free welding method.
A reaction from polyester suppliers is to vigorously push the material up to date so that they are not eliminated or replaced by competitive resin.
It is also important to work hard to develop new technologies to apply polyester materials to new applications.
DuPont recently purchased technology and sales rights to enhance Thermx PCT and enhance PET as well as pctacompods from Eastman.
DuPont believes that PCT has broadened its overall engineering thermoplastic palette for electrical equipment.
David grascock, senior DuPont Company
The temperature materials manager in the United States said that the PCT provided DuPont with a short-term-term thermal-
Pressure performance to eliminate the gap between PET and liquid
Crystal Polymer (LCP).
This is obvious in the HDT of 30% glass --
Enhanced PCT, 262 C/504 F at 264 psi.
This is an advantage in the performance area between Pets (224 C HDT)and LCP (288C).
The heat resistance of PCT is suitable for electrical equipment that requires infrared

PCT compounds are also reported to provide excellent electrical performance and good arc-
Track resistance related to competitive materials. Arc-
Track resistance opens the opportunity for two quick relays and switches
Surge in automotive applications-hybrid-
Electric and 42V cars.
DuPont is developing new pct grades and alloys to develop this potential.
Another reaction to changes in the automotive connector market is the introduction of hydrolysis-
The anti-PBTs of BASF, Tikona, Bayer, DuPont and other companies.
These compounds modify polymers and additives to improve the degradation capacity at high temperatures and humidity.
Mitchell Lee, BASF polyester product manager, believes that these compounds are critical to tb\'s continued success in the automotive connector space, as higher moisture resistance translates into better warp performance
And heat resistance.
They allow those who make connectors to meet global standards without re-designing and transforming existing connectors of different polymers.
BASF is trying to reduce the cost of hydrolysisresistant PBT.
Tikona has recently increased its impact
Glass/mineral-modification
Strengthening of hydrolysis and grade of alloy
Pbx resistant to Celanex.
One of them is Celanex 3425, with a glass of 40%, with toughness and special ability to bond with epoxy adhesive.
Bayer polymer recently highlighted high-
Density plug connectors critical to dimensional tolerances, for higher stress-
Crack resistance of distribution terminal housing.
From next January
Bayer will restructure the polymer chemical business into two companies.
The move will cut off business in its Pocan town, which will enter the new Langsheng company.
Makroblend PC/pbx alloy inherited by the new BayerMaterialScience AG.
LNP engineering plastics, previously a secondary factor in pbx, are seeking a greater role in the electronics market.
The goal of LNP is to apply its proprietary technology to the production of high-flow, non-
Contraction of the same sex.
After surpassing connectorsDuPont, the aesthetic quality of its enhanced PET and pbx production lines has been improved. Its new Shine-
The E. Rynite PET grade enhances the partial appearance of gloss and color retention.
When painting with metal parts in E-On the Net, a grade achieves A-level appearance in the external car panelcoatovens.
It is reported that the other provides excellent gloss and color for unpainednon
Car parts like oven door handles.
DuPont has also introduced a supplemental enhanced and unenhanced Crastin tb rating to address one of the obstacles in the potential market for car headlights tailgate.
When vacuum metallized, the existing pbx/PET alloy cannot produce a perfect mirror surface, so it is necessary to make a surface coating.
Additional coating steps threaten ecology
The pbx/PET baffle is competitive compared to the thermal group and metal.
The new Crastin CE2548 is a full
Ding benzene compound prepared to obtain the desired mirror-
Surface for direct metal processing of baffle.
It is said that the proprietary reinforcement package can achieve a perfect reflective surface without coating.
Richard Mayo, global market manager at DuPont, said the compound is being used in some parts of the United States. S.
Transportation like Lincoln Navigator
At the same time, Crastin CE2055 is a new type of non-enhanced flow performance with better gloss and reflectivity than any enhanced pet.
This allows high requirements for direct spraying of metal borderslustersurface.
It is said that this level is also allowed to be lightweight and used in Europe.
DuPont has found a new application field for food
Contact grade of Thermx PCT, that is, industrial and commercial baking trays that can withstand the temperature of 350 F oven
GE Advanced Materials has also recently introduced a new pbx/PET blendels for light head lamp baffles.
Valox EH7020HF is an improved version of 20% minerals
Enhanced EH7020 currently used for headlamps.
The new version has better flow and allows thinner walls.
BASF has now integrated former Honeywell-enhanced petcompods with its Ultradur pbx series.

To reduce the cost of pet compounds currently selling at around $1. 50/lb, A.
Shulman has launched a post that uses at least 25%-consumer PET.
JimOakley, product manager for engineering materials, claims that shulladur PCR provides performance and processing performance comparable to the original pet at a cost of up to 20%.
They provide glass reinforcement of 10% to 40%.
Oakley says they are being used for car windscreen wipers, grilles
Window-open the door
Lift motor, door handle and connector.
Action in alloys and other non-polyester alloys also have a large amount of activity
Connector application.
BASF has launched a 4090-square-meter poly-Ding gel/PET/ASA tri-
Alloy of 15% and 30% glass for external auto parts and other outdoor electronic housing.
The Asa improves weather resistance and dimensional stability while the polyester component is goodtune cost-performance.
GE Advanced Materials emphasizes the development of new alloys.
Itsalloy slate used to be mainly Xenoy PC/tb and now includes Cytra tb/ABS and xylex PC/co polyester.
The latter uses a variety of copolyester to enhance boostPC\'s resistance to weather, chemicals, stains and sterilization while maintaining its toughness and clarity.
Timo Brian, general manager of Crystal products, said: \"This customized envelope is gaining market appeal . \" He cited woodcuts from spas, swimming pools, dog collars, sunglasses, lenses and cosmetics.
O\'Brien added that GE\'s Xenoy PC/pbx is \"making a dramatic comeback\" in the car bumper fascias, where it is challenged by low-cost TPO and foam systems.
He attributed a trend to a thinner bumpercross-sections.
The use of Xenoy in colored, paint-free vertical body panels and kayak and backpack hardware is also growing.
Some polyester and co-polyester businesses have not stopped product development at DuPont man.
One of its latest initiatives is the launch of the \"glass polymer\", which copies the look of the glass
Wall bottles for cosmetics and personal usecare products.
These PCTA materials include AN001 for injection and stretching
An004 for blow molding and injection molding.
It is said that AN004 can also reduce cycle time.

It also provides a rigid feeling of glass.
Eastman is rolling out a new co-polyester for squeezing blow bottles and parts.
Pet G has long been a small, simple bottle such as a refrigerator container.
This unknown new co-polyester called EBO62 provides more toughness, clarity and melting strength than PETG, opening up more tough, thicker, and larger extrusion blow molding parts for polyester penetration
PETG has made new progress in laboratory flask and hot medical packaging.
Eastman recently added the Provista family, working on profiles for channels, signage, and medical and packaging tubes.
Provista MP001 products use branching agents and a wider molecular weight distribution to increase melting strength and reduce melting breaks at high throughput, but trade-
Low toughness.
Eastman also introduced a branch of PETGs for the medical industry.
MP002 retains the processing advantage of MP001 and has higher toughness than the main PETG 6763.
The new product of Eastman is DN010, a high-definition injection molding PCTG (
92% optical transmission)
Higher toughness suitable for replacement of acrylic can reduce breakage and allow breakagefit designs.
Another new PCTG for injection molding is MN005 for clear medical devices and packaging.
While promoting trade, it flows twice as much as normal.
Impact strength and breaking elongation.
SK Chemicals produces CHDM and co-polyester in Korea and is a major supplier in Asia
Pacific region, PETG is replacing PVC insheet for home display
And other applications. SK\'s U. S.
Subsidiaries have carefully entered the skygreen PETG market for film, paper and injection molding, which only offers products that choose the United StatesS. customers.
The head of a major domestic packaging company said that unlike other overseas PETG materials, the quality of PETG is comparable to that of Eastman\'s PETG. (
All the materials sold as PETG are notequal as some foreign producers are allegedly stingy at the CHDM level. )
Snowboards also weighed the introduction of PCTG.
Yoon Hong, business development manager, AtSK Chemicals America, said: \"We are taking a differentiated approach and do not intend to compete on prices . \".
SK\'s process of producing CHDM and copolyester is different from Eastman, she said, creating subtle performance differences.
A new polyester star?
Poly-diester (PTT)
Found in 1941, condensation through TPA and 1, 3-alcohol was manufactured by Shell Chemical and is now only available as a commercial resin for injection molding and extrusion.
Shell\'s catalyst breakthrough reduces PDO costs by 10-
Fold to about $1/lb and eventually make PTT a cost-
It is an effective alternative to PET and PET.
Shell\'s priority market for Corterra PTT is carpet and textile fibers, where it offers excellent toughness, stains
Resistance and color vitality.
PTT carpets have been commercialized in South Korea.
But Shell\'s top priority for PTT is the use of engineering plastics.
Higher molecules
The weight version is now available for sampling compounds and alloys.
Shell Chemical has 36-million-lb/yr batch-

The factory is owned by a shell company called \"Canada Poly Bao\", which works with a state
A company owned in Quebec.
It will make PTT using a new continuous melting process.
Shell Chemical will sell the product. PTT is a fast-
Crystal, 1. 35-
G/cc resin for injection molding, extrusion and blow molding.
It\'s easier to handle and it\'s not easy to damp
Its mechanical properties are between PET and PET.
Adding 30% of the glass to PTT will cause the performance to be equal or slightly better than that of the same enhanced tb (see graph).
According to JoeLeGrand, senior sales director at Shell LP,
Fiber PTT may be used almost exclusively in composite alloys with PC, tb or PET. [Graphics omitted]
Kirash danghaya, a senior researcher at Shell, said PTT created a smooth surface with a mirror
Copy like mold details.
This polymer is more distorted.
Easier to resist than other polyester and acceptors--
So much, he says, that the low pigment load of 50% is expected to provide the same brightness.
Potential PTT uses under investigation include large external panels for cars and agriculture, entertainment or outdoor activitiesroad vehicles;
Application and industrial housing;
Large flat building and decorative boards.
PTT can also be squeezed into a two-way oriented film: Korean filmmakers use PTT/PET mixture instead of PVC in the shrink film for industrial binding of bottles.
RTP, Lati USA and Albis are testing the ability of ptnz to implement UL 94 V-
